UCR has 70 General Assignment classrooms that can be classified as Smart Classrooms. These teaching facilities feature a broad range of presentation equipment, (DVD and SVHS players, high-end LCD projectors with XGA resolution and 3000-5000 lumens), as well as internet access. In addition, larger lecture halls contain wireless microphone systems, computers, and digital document cameras. As of Summer 2005...PC computers and audience response receivers (clickers)! Faculty in all GA classrooms are supported by Just-In-Time electronic and phone support (see below for details). All general assignment classrooms are equipped with an Internet PC.
UCR Smart Classrooms just got smarter. Three new classrooms in Surge were converted to Smart rooms with additional features. These “Flex” rooms have whiteboards in every wall, dual projection systems with independent displays and movable furniture. The rooms can be configured to meet individual faculty needs and teaching styles. Details coming soon.
The effort to upgrade all General Assignment classrooms began during the 99/00 budget and planning process. This investment in UCR's "instructional infrastructure" has yielded positive benefits: in a recent survey, 95.2% of instructors responded that UCR's available classroom technology either "Completely" or "Mostly" met their pedagogical needs.
The faculty-led Classroom Technology Advisory Group has provided guidance during the technology upgrade and has also expressed an exciting vision for continuing the process of enhancing UCR's classroom environment during the next four years. We are very interested in your feedback, so please share your thoughts concerning Classroom Technology improvements or e-mail Associate Vice Chancellor Chuck Rowley or Computing Support Services Director Larry McGrath. |
